OPINION
Letter: Larkin has served community well
Published: Wednesday, September 22, 2010
On the Sunday, Sept. 19, opinion page there was a letter written by Michelle Larkin, executive director of Rebuilding Together Saratoga County, thanking the various sponsors and numerous volunteers who work with Rebuilding Together.
What Michelle couldn’t say but should be said is that she deserves sincere thanks from our community. Seven years ago she initiated the idea of a county organization to affiliate with the national body. In those seven years, this infant organization has grown to be a thriving, successful one which has benefitted many members of our community. Its growth has been fantastic and is due in large part to Michelle’s initiative, efforts, organizational skills and a personal touch which encourages people to participate.
So, Michelle, many, many thanks to you from our community. You’ve done us proud!

The 2010 Showcase of Homes is nearly upon us! Coordinated by the Saratoga Builders Association, this year’s Showcase of Homes will be spectacular and is indeed the largest ever in its 15-year history. Please mark your calendars for this premiere, three-weekend fall event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18, 19, 25 and 26 and Oct. 2 and 3. You’ll need to plan for more than one day if you want to see all these magnificent homes. Tickets for the Showcase of Homes are $20 each and are good for all six days. They can be purchased at many Adirondack Trust Co. locations, Curtis Lumber, Realty USA or Roohan Realty. All Women Crew!

Saturday, May 1, 2009. The project involved both skilled and unskilled women with generous funding sponsored by The Soroptimists of Saratoga and lead by House Captains Paula Lomasney and Dottie Rucinski. The scope of work involved power washing the whole house, removing and replacing skirting, removing and replacing the deck planking and stairs on the rear 8’ x 16’ deck and completely demolishing and rebuilding the front 8’ x 8’ deck. Also included was general yard cleanup. It was a gorgeous day, perfect temperatures and brilliant sunshine. The homeowner (disabled woman) was brought to tears by the skills, hard work and dedication. Several neighbors and friends were amazed and commented on the great work. The all-women crew loved it, learned new skills and enthusiastically committed to coming back together next year!
